Actual Keylogger – is a free keylogger which runs hidden in the background and automatically records all keystrokes (including Alt, Ctrl and other functional buttons). The interface can be password protected and the log files are encrypted. You can view the reports as HTML or plain text. In the hidden mode it is invisible in all operating systems. This free keylogger will be really helpful to both the system administrators and home users.

Actual Keylogger features:

  • When viewing the keystrokes can show only the characters without showing the pressed system keys which is more convenient. For example, if the following keys are pressed:

How to backup and archive all data from Facebook

What if your Facebook account was suddenly disabled? This has happened to hundreds of users. Are you thinking of closing your Facebook account but don’t want to lose all your data?

If you are like me, you want to download and backup your Facebook data just in case. Here is a simple way to backup and archive your Facebook information using the ArchiveFacebook Firefox extension.

Archive Facebook is an experimental Firefox extension that allows you to backup Facebook data on your local hard drive. You can browse your archive as if it were your local copy of Facebook. Facebook does not let you upload this data in any way, so you cannot use it for restoring anything in case you delete your data or account in Facebook.

Archive Facebook backs up the following from your Facebook profile:

  • Photos
  • Messages
  • Activity Stream
  • Friends List
  • Notes
  • Events
  • Groups
  • Info

Note that your friends activity or data is not included in your archive. Also, if you prefer using a browser other than Firefox, you can use this extension by installing Firefox just to backup Facebook data, and then uninstall Firefox. Your backup will be usable from other browsers as well (see last section below).

Disable or Uninstall Scrapbook

Archive Facebook causes instability if the Scrapbook Firefox extension is installed. You should not run both of them simultaneously, so if you have installed Scrapbook, disable or uninstall it.

Get a Facebook Username

As of version 1.0, Archive Facebook works only if you have a vanity URL for your Facebook profile. If you don’t already have one, get a Facebook username for your account here. Once you can access your Facebook via http://www.facebook.com/your_name you are all set.

Install the Extension

To get started, install the Archive Facebook extension from the Mozilla Firefox Addons gallery. This is an experimental extension, so you will need to enable the option to allow you to download and install it.

After restarting Firefox, you should see a new menu item “ArchiveFB” in Firefox between the Bookmarks and the Tools menu.

Backup and Archive

Login to your Facebook account. You should be able to browse in Facebook before you start the archive process.

Go to ArchiveFB > Show in Sidebar and open the sidebar.

While you are seeing Facebook open in your browser, select ArchiveFB > Archive. You will automatically get redirected to your Facebook profile page and see the following dialog box:

Select OK to start the backup process. Cancel will not start any operation. Once you start the archive process, ArchiveFB begins to retrieve your Facebook stream in reverse chronological order. You will see a series of dialog boxes displaying how far back it has progressed in the retrieval process.

If you select Cancel on any of these dialog boxes, your archive will extend back in time only till that date and time stamp.

Once the retrieval process is complete, ArchiveFB will start downloading your Facebook data to create your backup archive.

The process may take several hours depending upon the speed of your connection and how long and extensively you’ve used Facebook.

Be patient, but if you find that the process is stuck on one particular item in the list, click Pause and then Start to resume. I found that this trick worked when ArchiveFB seemed to get stuck on a few items in the list.

Sidebar

Once the backup and archive operation is complete, you can see a new entry in the sidebar “Facebook | username date” with your username and the current date. This indicates that the operation was successful.

Browsing Your Archive

Just like any data backup software, you can have multiple sets of your Facebook archive made at different points in time, which will all appear in your ArchiveFB sidebar. Clicking on any of the entries in the sidebar browses that archive set, starting at your profile page.

Observe the browser address bar URLs when browsing your Facebook profile archive. It will show “file://” instead of “http://” indicating that you are browsing a local copy on your hard disk. You should be able to view your photos, friends list, notes, etc. from within your local copy.

You will see an Annotation Bar at the bottom of the browser. It has highlighting and annotation tools with which you can make notes about any of the items in your Facebook archive.

For Advanced Users and Other Browsers

ArchiveFB stores the copy of your Facebook data within your Firefox profile by default. You will find an ArchiveFB folder created inside your Firefox profile folder, where the archives created by this extension are stored.

What if you normally use a different browser? In the ArchiveFB sidebar, go to Tools > Options. In the Options dialog, go to the Organize tab. In the Location to Store Data, you can specify a different location for your archive.

From any archive set, you can open the “index.html” file to open and browse your Facebook archive data from within any browser.

Wireshark 1.4.0 – O melhor snifer para redes informáticas

Este tema levanta sempre alguma celeuma, principalmente porque alguns utilizadores entendem que é conhecimento a mais nas mãos de quem não o domina, tornando o programa numa ferramenta utilizada para fins menos lícitos. Entendemos que não é a troca de conhecimento que potencia o desenvolvimento, no prato da balança, os aspectos positivos notoriamente sobrepõe os potenciais riscos.

O tema deste artigo é: sniffing. Basicamente o sniffing é “cheirar” algo, no contexto das redes é captar tráfego (pacotes de dados) para posteriormente analisar. Ora bem, este processo é normalmente realizado através de um sniffer que não é nada mais nada menos que um software (também pode ser hardware, mas sempre com software à mistura) capaz de analisar o tráfego que anda na nossa rede.

O processo de captação dos pacotes que andam a navegar na rede é realizado através da ajuda das placas de rede que cada computador possui. Resumindo, eu instalo um snifer numa máquina, ligo-me a uma rede via wireless ou wired (cabo) e basicamente tudo o que passa na rede cai no nosso sniffer.

Para que é que eu preciso de um sniffer?

Para muitos, é uma poderosa ferramenta de trabalho, para outros é aquela ferramenta capaz de apanhar umas passwords na rede (em plain text de preferência), alguns dados confidenciais, decifrar chaves de rede, etc, etc, se esses dados não são encriptados antes de serem enviados pela rede… maravilha… passam em claro na rede, perceptíveis por qualquer utilizador. Quanto ao Wireshark (antigo Ethereal), para mim é simplesmente o melhor sniffer grátis!!! (eu sei que também há o tcpdump :) , mas este não tem GUI ). O Wireshark permite analisar os pacotes recebidos e transmitidos por qualquer interface de rede e organiza-os por protocolo (TCP, UDP, ICMP, etc).

Permite que sejam aplicados filtros por forma a minimizar os resultados de uma determinada análise de rede. Para que o Wireshark funcione, é necessário ter o WinPcap instalado (normalmente vem no pacote do wireshark) que disponibiliza as bibliotecas necessárias para que as interfaces possam captar os pacotes da rede. O software permite ainda que se guardem todas as nossas “capturas” num ficheiro de texto ou numa extensão reconhecida pelo software.

Monitorize os serviços da Google no Windows e no Linux

Todos nós usufruímos certamente de serviços da poderosa Google. É verdade que é um pouco “assustador” partilharmos muitos do nossos dados, mas também é verdade que nesse campo a Google tem dominado e tem disponibilizado serviços de grande nível como são exemplo o Gmail, Google docs, Google calendar, Google Voice, Google Reader, entre outros.

Os serviços encontram-se todos disponíveis na “cloud”, trazendo as vantagens que já todos conhecemos, por outro lado torna-se um desafio ao utilizador gerir todos os serviços.

Para ultrapassar esse problema, apresentamos o Googsystray que permite monitorizar os serviços, notificando o utilizador.

Googsystray é uma aplicação muito simples, mas que dá muito jeito aos utilizadores que usam os serviços da Google. Através desta ferramenta podemos monitorizar actualmente os seguintes serviços:

  • Gmail
  • Google Voice
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Reader
  • Google Wave (removido nesta versão)

Depois de procedermos a respectiva configuração, através da nossa conta de e-mail, as notificações aparecem no system tray.

Considerando por exemplo o ícone quer irá notificar o estado do nosso e-mail, temos ainda a possibilidade de um atalho para aceder directamente ao Google e-mail, considerar todas as mensagens lidas e até escrever um novo e-mail.

Podemos também de imediato, visualizar todos os e-mails que fazem parte da nossa caixa de correio.

Como instalar no Ubuntu?

Para instalarem no Ubuntu, basta efectuarem o download do .deb aqui (googsystray_1.2.4_all.deb) e mandar executar

Esta é sem dúvida uma boa forma de nos mantermos informados sobre os nossos serviços localizados na cloud. Desta forma, deixa de ser necessário termos um conjunto de tabs do browser activas para estarmos sempre a controlar os serviços.

Considerações finais

Depois de recentemente ter saído a versão 1.2.2, verificamos que a mesma continha alguns erros. Actualmente a versão 1.2.4 funciona perfeitamente em sistemas Linux e Windows 32/64 bits.
